Hosted by Music In Communities (MIC) and Creative Music Workshops (CMW) faculty, this session is an opportunity for some quiet reflection and a sound-walk through the beautiful Harriet Irving Botanical Garden, followed by group improvisation.
This will be a lovely chance to connect with other musicians and non-musicians in a totally different way from the hustle of the conference. No instruments required. We will use voices and potentially some ukuleles and hand percussion provided by the hosts.
*This session is a variation of the work of the Creative Music Workshop (founded by the late percussionist/improviser Jerry Granelli) which takes a unique approach to teaching improvisation in a non-stylized way, with a focus on the fundamentals of creativity and craft. CMW sessions cover a range of topics including meditation and mindfulness exercises, listening exercises, movement and body-awareness exercises, vocal-based group improvisations, embodied rhythmic practice, while also helping students navigate common performance issues such as facing fear, habitual patterns, and self-doubt.*
This experience is open to musicians and anyone interested in creative process and improvisation. All experience levels welcome from beginner to professional. Workshop suitable for ages 15+.
